FAQ #: 107
I picked up an Unapplied Payment and used it to pay some invoices, but now I want to void this. I can void the payments applied to the invoices, but not where I picked up the Unapplied Payments.
Unapplied Payments themselves (if unused and left open) can be voided in the normal Void window in Cash Posting. However, once an Unapplied Payment has been applied to other invoices or debits, it cannot be voided. You can, however, use the Reversing Entry selection of Cash Posting to get rid of the applied amount off of an Unapplied Payment. However, keep in mind that the original Unapplied Payment was a credit, so the amount applied to it (to get rid of it) was a debit. Therefore, the check amount will need to be entered as a positive amount, not a negative amount as is normally the case with Reversing Entries. Once this amount is entered, you can select on the Unapplied Payment to be reversed and then click on the Reverse button. You will also have to enter the amount in the Reverse pop-up window as a positive amount to have it off-set correctly.
