FAQ #: 12
Can I set up items to be sold to customers at cost or a markup over cost?

You can use Price Exception records to define items to be sold to customers either at cost or by marking up over cost. Price Exception records are set up in Customer Maintenance, but you can also set up price exception records on a Price Schedule that might apply to many different customers. Price Schedules are set up under Order Processing, File Maintenance, Price Schedule Maintenance. You give each schedule a name, and then set up the different price exception records that apply to the schedule and then assign the customers who are to receive those special prices.

When setting up a Price Exception Record, you can choose a Price Level. When choosing the Price Code, you can pick from any of the four standard inventory costs (Average, Last, Next, and User). If all you select is the cost as the Price Code, then you will be selling the item(s) to the customer at cost. If you wish to "markup" over the cost, then you can enter a negative discount in the first Discount %'s field. Only the first discount allows the minus (-) sign to be entered, but this will give the customer a negative discount which will effectively markup the cost in order to arrive at the selling price.
