FAQ #: 121
Can I store shipping/tracking numbers on sales orders?

Answers provides integration with UPS Worldship and FedEx Ship Manager. This integration allows you to retreive the Answers sales order number in the respective shipping software which will retreive other information such as ship-to address, weight, billing options, and shipment notification information. The shipping program can then export the tracking numbers and any freight charges back to Answers. The tracking numbers are shown on the printed invoice (if desired) and on the Invoice History tab in Customer Inquiry. From the Invoice History tab, any user can right-click on the tracking number and track the package online through the respective shipping software website.

Documents that explain how to integrate Answers with UPS Worldship can be found on our website at www.drcanswers.com/support.htm under the Manuals & Documentation Downloads section.

Documents that explain how to integrate Answers with FedEx Ship Manager can also be found on our website in the Manuals & Documentation Downloads section.

Data Resources Corporation does not distribute, sell, or support either of these shipping software programs. Please contact your UPS Service Representative or your FedEx Service Representative for information on how to purchase or obtain shipping software.

If you are using any other type of shipping software, you will have to store tracking numbers in Answers manually. You can do this using the Bill of Lading field on the sales order header, however, this field is limited to only 13 characters which may not be be enough room. You can also consider using comment lines to store the tracking numbers on the Sales Order Detail tab. Comment lines will be displayed in the Invoice History tab of Customer Inquiry, however, there will not be a right-click and track option for manually entered tracking numbers.
