FAQ #: 133
What are the requirements for a laser printer to print Answers laser forms?
Laser Printers must be PCL5 or PCL6 compatible. PCL stands for Printer Control Language and is how Answers sends forms information to laser printers. If a printer does not have PCL5 or PCL6, then it will not be able to print Answers forms completely as they are designed. Printers without PCL5 or PCL6 may be able to print portions of the form or data but will not likely be able to print everything needed. The printer must also have the following fonts as "resident" meaning the printer must have these fonts "built-in". (Courier, Helvetica/Swiss, Line Printer, Times Roman, Universal)
Answers also has an option for printing forms that do not require PCL compatible printers. This option is more flexible in that you can have color logos and control the shading and color in the heading boxes. And, it will allow the forms to print on deskjet, inkjet, and other printers that do not print in PCL language. In order to use this option, your forms templates must be updated by DRC. Contact DRC to schedule the forms update for your company.
