FAQ #: 22
The figures for the Inventory Value in the Daily Business Summary are way off. How do I determine the problem?

The Inventory Value figure in the Daily Business Summary comes from the Inventory Valuation Reports that are run automatically at night. These reports are not normally printed as they are hundreds and hundreds of pages. The easiest way to determine the cause of an incorrect inventory valuation figure is listed below:

1. Run the Inventory Valuation Report by WH/Dept/Sub (Inventory > Reporting > Status Reports > Inventory Valuation Reports). Run the report to include non-stock items (so you get everything), all warehouses, and all product codes. Choose the Totals Only option. This will cause the report to print only the totals for each product code group, creating a much shorter report.

2. Look through the report to locate the product code group(s) with totals that appear to be incorrect.

3. Re-run the report, this time limiting to the warehouse and product code ranges for the groups with incorrect totals in step 2. This time, use the detail option so that you can see the part numbers in the groups. This should pin-point the items that have invalid quantities or costs and are making the valuation report totals wrong.

4. Use Inventory Inquiry to further narrow down the problem and then use Inventory Adjustments or Receipts Cost Maintenance to correct problems.
