How Can I Verify that My Faxes have been sent?

From the Answers menu, you can click on the Fax Log Viewer selection. In this screen you will be able to see all the faxes that have been set from your PC. You will see the date and time, the recipient, the fax number, and the status.

If you have been set up in the VSI-Fax Server Administration program as an "administrator", you will also be able to see the faxes that other users have sent. You can click on the multiple people icon on the toolbar. Please see How Can I See Other User's Faxes for instructions on how to set up a user to be an "administrator" in VSI-Fax.

You can cancel a fax job using the trashcan icon. VSI-Fax tries each job for at least 5 attempts before failing the job. If a job has failed, then you can re-send the fax job from here, using the fax machine icon.

On thing that you will notice when reviewing the logs, is that for each fax, VSI-Fax shows you the number of attempts made to send the fax, and the end-result of the fax. Here are some common result status codes:

Normal - This status code means that your fax was sent successfully. More than one attempt might have been needed, but the fax was sent.

Cancel - This status code means that the administrator or the user who sent the fax cancelled the fax manually.

Line Drop - This codes means that VSI-Fax did establish some type of connection with the receiving fax machine, but the connection was lost before the fax transmission was complete. In a few cases, it has been found that VSI-Fax is unable to the communicate with the receiving fax modem for multiple page faxes. VSI-Fax is able to send the first page (usually the cover page), but records a ""line drop"" status code before it sends the remaining pages. Other problems might simply be communication problems in the phone lines.

Too Many No Dials or No Dial - This status usually means that there was some problem in trying to dial the phone number. This may be related to needing to dial a pre-fix before dialing a number, or it may be a problem in the phone line.

When you experience problems in sending faxes through VSI-Fax, one of the first trouble-shooting techniques to try is stopping and re-starting the VSI-Fax server. Please see Stop and Re-starting the VSI-Fax server . The next step might be to verify the connection between the modem and the server. Finally, you want to use a regular phone to test the modem line and make sure it is functioning properly.

Problems with all of your faxes generally indicate a problem with either VSI-Fax in general, or hardware connections, or phone line problems. Problems with only one or two faxes usually mean a problem with the fax number, or the communication between VSI-Fax and the receiving fax machine. Fax numbers entered in ANSWERS for use with VSI-Fax should be entered the same way that you dial the numbers. If you do not have to dial the area code when calling the number, then you should not enter the area code in VSI-Fax. When VSI-Fax sees the area code, it will normally insert the long distance pre-fix, default of 1. Some cities have special dialing requirements that need to use an area code, but not a long distance pre-fix. Parameters can be set up for VSI-Fax to handle these areas. Also consider whether you need to dial a special pre-fix in order to reach an outside line. If so, please see Configuring VSI-Fax to dial an outside line for specific instructions. Problems that are encountered as a result of communications with the receiving fax machines can rarely be corrected. These problems usually result when there is incompatibility between VSI-Fax and the fax machine, or when the fax machine on the receiving end is old or out-dated.
