FAQ #: 39
How do I create an Out of Balance Journal Entry?

First, all journal entries that are made by the system are checked to insure that they are "balanced". This means that the total amount of debit entries is equal to the total amount of credit entries. All manual entries made to the G/L should be balanced, and the manual journal entry program does not normally make out of balance entries.

Data Resources Corporation provides the following information for it's users, but does not recommend making out of balance journal entries. Data Resources Corporation will not be responsible for any out of balance entries created by the user, and warns it's users that creating out of balance entries may seriously damage the integrity of the general ledger accounts.

To make an out of balance entry, you must run the General Journal Entry program using a special "switch". To run the program in this manner, select the "Execute A Cobol Program" from the System Administration menu. When prompted for the name of the program, enter CCGL022/B. This will run the general journal entry program, but will allow you to "post" an entry that is not in balance.
