FAQ #: 73
When I try to run the Post Journal Entries to Master, I get a message that the journal entries are not in balance.

The Post Journal Entries to Master checks to make sure that the total amount of debits equals the total amount of credits for the entries that you are attempting to post. If it does not, then the system does not permit you to post the entries.

You can run a G/L Trial Balance for the same date range and period as the entries that you wish to post. When running the G/L Trial Balance, be sure to run it for all accounts. The best way to run the Trial Balance prior to posting is to run for an account range of 00000 - 99999 or 00-00000-000 - 00-99999-000. This will make sure to pick up all accounts that might possibly have an entry. This will cover all accounts that you have set up, as well as any "invalid" accounts that an entry might have been made to.

The worst case scenario for this message is that the journal entries are really out of balance. In this case, a trial balance run for all accounts (as described above) should also show up out of balance. If you really have an out-of-balance situation, you will need to find the account(s) that are out-of-balance, so that a correcting entry can be made. You can refer to How to Create an Out of Balance Journal Entry for further information.
