FAQ #: 96
I am using A/P Automated Check Writing to print checks, but it is not picking up my discounts.

When running A/P Automated Checks (or printing the Cash Requirements Report), the system asks for three dates. First, is the Current Check Date. This is going to be used as the date on the checks.

Second is the Next Check Date. The system uses the next check date to find all invoices that have to be paid prior to the next check date in order to keep the invoice from being past due or losing a discount. So, if the due date of the invoice, or the discount date on the invoice is before the Next Check Date, the system will suggest the invoice for payment. Invoices that have a due date or a discount date after the Next Check Date will not be picked up for payment, since you can pay them on the Next Check Date and still get the discount and be current.

The Discount Date allows you to specify what date the system will check to determine if the discount is allowed to be taken. This date defaults to the current system date. If the discount date on the invoice is between the Discount Date and the Next Check Date, the discount is allowed. If the discount date on the invoice falls after the Discount Date keyed in, the discount is not taken.

The Discount Date on the Cash Requirements Report and the Automated Check Writing program always defaults to the current check date. If the vendors are more lenient and allow you to take discounts even though you are technically past the discount date, you may want to "back date" the discount date to allow yourself more discounts to be taken. For example, if you are writing checks on the 15th of the month, changing the Discount Date to the 1st of the month would pick up all discounts from the 1st of the month on all invoices paid.
