FAQ #: 97
I have already posted journal entries to the master file, but I found a mistake, what can I do?
If you need to make more journal entries for the month, (ie. Month closing entries, additional payments, etc), there really is no problem. You can simply make the necessary entries and re-run the Post Journal Entries to Master program. In fact, the Post Journal Entries to Master program can be run multiple times during the month as needed. Each time it is run, it simply adds the totals for any entries to the master file totals.
If the mistake is such that you actually need to "reverse" or "undo" the posting, this can also be accomplished. Answers provides a program, that it not on the menu, that will allow unposting journal entries. The program asks for the date range of entries to be unposted, and then it moves those entries back to the activity file and subtracts the amounts from the monthly period they were originally posted to. This program is not on the menu, but can be run from the Execute A Cobol Program prompt. The program name is CCGL031.
The Execute A Cobol Program prompt is located on the System Management (System Tools) menu. When asked, simply type in CCGL031 to run the unpost program.
You must be careful when unposting that you do not try and unpost entries from a prior year. Before running the unpost program, make sure that this is the necessary step to take. You should run a Trial Balance and other various reports to verify that you indeed do need to unpost the journal entries from the master file.
