Assigning Master File Numbers Automatically in Answers
Answers 9.1 added the ability to have Customer numbers, Vendor numbers, Inventory Stock Numbers, and Prospect Numbers assigned automatically when adding new master file records. All or some of these numbers can still be assigned manually all the time or some of the time as desired. This optional automatic number assignment was just added as an additional way of assigning these numbers if desired.
If you wish to control where your automatically assigned numbers start off, you will want to go into System Management-->Answers Software Maintenance-->Control #'s Maintenance. This is where you can view and change what was the last number assigned, which in turn affects the next number assigned when the corresponding automatically assign button is clicked in Customer Maintenance, Vendor Maintenance, Inventory Item Maintenance, and Prospect Maintenance.
Given that all of these numbers are strictly numeric 6-digit numbers with the exception of inventory stock numbers, you may wish to click on "Help" from the pull-down menu bar in the Control #'s Maintenance program to learn more about the options of how automatically assigned stock numbers can be setup, if you are interested in using this feature on inventory stock numbers. But again, remember you can use this in areas or on records when wanted, but it is not required to use it on all records or in all areas all the time. Any of these numbers can still be assigned manually anytime.
