New Multi-Select Feature in Inventory Item Search

The new release of Answers rolling out to customers in September and October 2023 contains a "Multi-Select" feature in the Inventory Item Search window when called from certain programs such as Order Entry, Returns Entry, Quote Entry, Warehouse Transfer Entry, and Purchase Order Entry.

The purpose of this "Multi-Select" feature is to allow adding multiple items to an order, quote, return, transfer, or purchase order at once while in the search window as opposed to having to go in and out of the search for every single item.  Adding multiple items is easily done by placing a check-mark in the first column of the item search grid.  Once all items are selected, you can then use the [Select] button to have all of the checked items added to the transaction on which you are working.  You can also easily un-check all items if needed by clicking the check-box in the header row of the grid.

Of course, you may still select a single item by double-clicking on it, by highlighting it and using the [Select] button, or by highlighting it and pressing the <Enter> key on the keyboard just as in the past.  Note that many programs that allow access to the item search window still only allow one item at a time to be selected because in most of these, selecting multiple items at once would not be practical such as in Inventory Inquiry, Inventory Maintenance, etc.

A side benefit of this change is that now the search list is now in a grid as opposed to a simple list box.  This means that the Search window can be resized to see more items or more columns at once.  But it also means that the columns within the search list are resizable and can be resized by the user to suit your needs as this can vary significantly from company to company based on how your inventory items are setup.  Regardless, the program will remember each user's settings for any changes they make to the window and column sizes and will re-default them back the next time they use the inventory item search again.
